A visit to one of the largest Ukrainian enterprises for the production of civil construction and bridge steel structures allowed the young people to see for themselves where and how the products of European quality are made.

The laboratory of the plant allows to carry out strict control of incoming raw materials. It hosts the test products for compliance with the chemical composition (chemical analysis, spectral analysis) and mechanical tests to determine the physical and mechanical properties.

Students saw the metal stored at the plant – indoors, in special racks in size of the type, sort and profile, not on the street.

Also, the plant runs stenciling for effective search of each item. Welding materials are stored in special heated rooms, equipped with special electric furnaces for their drying and calcinations before issuing a fabrication.

Cleaning the surface of the rolled metal to Sa 2 ½ and Sa 3 carried by shot blasting machines, equipped with powerful turbines (shot speed reaches 90 m / sec). Such a treatment completely removes rust, scale, dirt, and provides a surface roughness of not less than 40–60 micrometers.

Young people appreciate the quality control system at the enterprise. Fabrication of steel structures made according to the European standard EN 1090, SNIP, DBN. ZHSSP apply effective quality management system ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001.

Also, students were introduced to computerized equipment that allows different angles to perform a cross-shaped cut without ragged edge profiles with an accuracy of 0.5 mm at a different angle, necessary in the fabrication of trusses without joint plate pipe contiguity.

The availability of modern automated PNC equipment allows one workplace to carry out several operations, which ensures high quality and precision manufacturing steel structures.

Future professionals visiting the ZHSSP have added useful practical experience to their theoretical knowledge, which later will be able to apply in their work.
